High Wind Watch For East Bay: National Weather Service

Winds could be powerful enough to blow over trees and cause power outages. The watch period includes the time of the Super Bowl.

EAST BAY — The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Watch for a large portion of the Bay Area including portions of the East Bay, from early Sunday morning through early Monday morning. Forecasters warn that the winds could be powerful enough to blow down trees and knock-out power.

The official watch says, "Widespread power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles."

The winds are expected to accompany a dry cold front as it moves through the region. Sustained winds are predicted to be 20 to 30 mph, with gusts along the coastline between 40 to 50 mph. Inland valleys should expect gusts between 30 to 45 mph.
