Deadly Party Bus Shooting In CA Likely Wasn't Random, Police Say

A birthday celebration on a party bus ended in a deadly shootout Tuesday morning that injured multiple people and killed two women.

OAKLAND, CA — At least two women died and several people were injured during a shootout as a group celebrating a birthday party aboard a bus in Oakland early Tuesday morning, according to multiple reports. Officials later determined that two separate shootings occurred, peppering the party bus with bullet holes.

The shooting began around 11 p.m. along eastbound I-580 at Seminary Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol. More shots were leveled at the bus around midnight, near Foothill Boulevard at 68th Avenue.

Multiple people were struck by gunfire with varying degrees of injury and were taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland, CHP said. At least two women reportedly died in the shooting, authorities told The Mercury News.

"Based on preliminary investigation, it does not appear this shooting was a random event," CHP officials wrote in a statement on Wednesday.

The group on the bus was celebrating a birthday, KRON4 reported. The birthday girl may have also sustained gunshot wounds, the station also reported.
