OAKLAND, CA — A man who died after crashing his minivan into a tree on the Dutton Avenue off-ramp from eastbound Interstate Highway 580 in Oakland early Tuesday morning has been identified by the Alameda County coroner's bureau as 24-year-old Vantrelle Rutherford of Stockton.
The collision was reported at 12:22 a.m. Tuesday and Rutherford was pronounced dead at the scene.
California Highway Patrol Officer Kris Borer said Rutherford was driving a Toyota minivan when for some reason he made an unsafe movement and his vehicle went down an embankment and struck a tree.

Rutherford was the only person in his minivan and no one else was injured, according to Borer.
The CHP is still investigating the fatal crash, Borer said.
