Man Killed In San Leandro Crash ID'd

The crash happened near Kaiser Friday morning.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — A man who was killed in a collision near the Kaiser Permanente San Leandro Medical Center on Friday morning has been identified by the Alameda County coroner's bureau as 36-year-old Carlos Rios of Oakland.

San Leandro police said Rios was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck south on Merced Street when it drifted across the raised center median and collided head-on with a Ford Escort that was traveling north.

The impact of the collision caused Rios to be ejected out of the truck's passenger side window and hit the car before falling to the ground, according to police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said speed may have been a factor in the collision but they said it hasn't yet been determined if alcohol or drugs also played a role.
