
SAN LEANDRO, CA — A driver who died following a head-on collision in San Leandro late Monday night has been identified by the Alameda County coroner's bureau as 65-year-old Melvin Calloway Sr. of Oakland.
The collision occurred in the 1000 block of San Leandro Boulevard at 10:55 p.m. Monday.
San Leandro police said it appears that Calloway's car and another car were traveling in opposite directions on San Leandro Boulevard when they collided, but police have few details at this time and are still
investigating the collision.

Firefighters and paramedics extricated both drivers from their cars and they were taken to hospitals to be treated.
Calloway was pronounced dead at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley a few hours after the collision, a coroner's spokeswoman said.

Police said the injuries to the other driver didn't appear to be life-threatening.
Referring to Calloway, San Leandro police spokesman Lt. Isaac Benabou said in a statement, "Our condolences go out to the family of the deceased driver and we soon hope to reach a finding as to the cause of the accident."
