More Than 40 Bands to Play at 5th Annual Hiero Day on Labor Day

The fifth annual Hiero Day starts at 11 a.m. Monday.

OAKLAND, CA — A block party celebrating hip hop, independent music and all that's good about Oakland begins late Monday morning in West Oakland, organizers said. The fifth annual Hiero Day starts at 11 a.m. at Third and Chestnut streets, about a mile east of the West Oakland BART station. More than 40 musicians and DJs will entertain visitors on three stages until after 7 p.m.

Headliners for the party include the band the party is named after, Hieroglyphics, as well as Dilated Peoples, Juvenile and Too Short, according to organizers. Hieroglyphics is an Oakland-based band. Music starts at 11:30 a.m. and goes until Hieroglyphics plays at 7 p.m.

Organizers are encouraging visitors to take public transit. Street parking will be free but limited. General admission is $19.93 and can be purchased online or at Oaklandish, LocoL, Bosk and Beast Mode Apparel Oakland, all in Oakland.

Admission for children under 7 is free. Tickets for preferred viewing at the three stages are available
only online at $50. VIP access can be purchased only online for $199.30. VIP access gives visitors expedited entry, access to the VIP area with cash bars, the opportunity to meet the musicians and preferred viewing
at the three stages.
