Oakland Gears Up for Warriors' New Season
The Golden State Warriors open their season at Oracle Arena against the San Antonio Spurs.
OAKLAND, CA — Today is the first day of the 2016-2017 National Basketball Association season and the start of Oakland's Warriors Week, a citywide celebration of all things Golden State Warrior. The Warriors open their season at 7:30 p.m. at Oracle Arena against the San Antonio Spurs, four months after losing the NBA Finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers after leading the series three games to one.
The team and Visit Oakland, which promotes Oakland as a travel and vacation destination, are working hard to encourage the city's already enthusiastic embrace of two-time MVP Stephen Curry, new Warrior and former MVP Kevin Durant, All-Stars Klay Thompson and Draymond Green and the rest of head coach Steve Kerr's players.
The city will fly the Warriors' team flag over City Hall and the Oakland Visitor Center will pass out cheer cards and T-shirts to fans at Jack London Square.
