San Leandro Costco Purse Snatching: 2 Arrests

Police developed leads by viewing several surveillance videos.

SAN LEANDRO, CA —Police arrested two purse snatching suspects, San Leandro Police announced Thursday.

The purse snatching happened on June 17 in the Costco parking lot on Davis Street. Police caught their first break in the investigation when the getaway car was captured on a surveillance camera, and police were able to obtain a license plate.

Detectives tracked two suspects as they were captured on surveillance cameras using the victim's credit card at serval businesses in the Bay Area.

SLPD Detectives arrested the pair at the Walmart store on Davis Street in San Leandro on June 23.

"SLPD Detectives spent several investigative hours in developing leads, identifying both suspects, and obtaining evidence that led to the arrest and recovery of the victim's wallet. We were grateful to provide a positive outcome to the victim," said SLPD Lt. Ali Khan.

A search of the getaway vehicle turned up the victim's wallet. A subsequent search warrant served on the suspect's residence resulted in a recovery of a ghost handgun, so-called because it has no serial or manufacture imprints, making it nearly impossible to trace the weapon.
