San Leandro Girl Scouts Install Rock Garden
The Kindness & Inspiration Rock Garden furthers the theme, "One message at just the right moment can change your whole day, outlook, life!"
SAN LEANDRO, CA — According to the Girl Scout Law, Girl Scouts must “Make the World a Better Place.” On November 4, six girls from San Leandro Girl Scout Troop 31239 joined Troop 11302 and other sister troops from around the Bay Area to install a Kindness & Inspiration Rock Garden as part of their Cadette aMAZE Journey.
A Girl Scout Journey is an educational experience where girls can explore new concepts, connect with Girl Scout sisters, learn to help their community and make a difference in the world. The Girl Scout Cadette aMAZE Journey allows girls to explore healthy relationships while developing a strong sense of self and promoting confidence in themselves and others. Every Girl Scout Journey ends with a sustainable Take Action project, which is rooted in the concepts of the journey. The Kindness & Inspiration Rock Garden is the Take Action project, the culmination of these Girl Scout’s aMAZE Journey, and a ribbon cutting ceremony with the community celebrated its installation. The project mission statement is “One message at just the right moment can change your whole day, outlook, life!”
Prior to completing the Kindness & Inspiration Garden, 23 Cadette Girl Scouts worked for two
full days learning from experts and each other to complete the extensive journey requirements.
Therapist Sierra Dator, MSW, LCSW, who specializes in therapy for youth, adults and families
and offers Wise Girl workshops, helped the girls learn to navigate friendships, better understand cliques and how to define and respond to bullying behavior. Fine artist Rachel Forbis, who recently started working on custom and commissioned art pieces on rocks and remnants from the Santa Rosa firestorm, helped guide the girls and teach them how to paint inspirational messages on rocks so that they can continue to inspire and uplift others for years to come.
