San Leandro Man Identified As Murder Victim

He was shot dead in Castro Valley last week.

CASTRO VALLEY, CA — A man who was fatally shot in Castro Valley on Thursday evening was identified by a sheriff's spokesman as 24-year Joseph Gormley of San Leandro.

Sgt. Ray Kelly said Gormley was sitting in a vehicle in the 2300 block of John Court near the junction of Interstate Highways 580 and 238 at about 5:30 p.m. on Thursday when a man approached the vehicle and opened fire.

Gormley died of multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said. The suspect ran to a getaway vehicle after the shooting, according to authorities.

Kelly said investigators haven't yet identified the suspect but said his image was captured on multiple video surveillance cameras at houses in the area where the shooting occurred.

The sheriff's office said in a social media post, "We continue to actively work this case to bring those responsible to justice."
