San Leandro Police Share New Year's Eve Safety Tips
Police reminded San Leandro residents that drinking and driving, using fireworks and discharging firearms are illegal.
SAN LEANDRO, CA — With the ball-drop and fireworks getting closer by the hour, the San Leandro Police Department is sharing tips on how to stay safe during New Year's Eve festivities.
There will be increased patrols throughout the city Tuesday, the SLPD said. The department also shared these safety tips:
- Driving after drinking alcoholic beverages — with a BAC of .08 percent or higher — or using drugs that impair driving is, of course, illegal.
- It is illegal to use or possess fireworks within the City of San Leandro, even those determined to be "safe and sane."
- Discharging a firearm is illegal, unless at an approved shooting range.
- Open alcoholic beverages are banned in public places and city parks, with violators subject to arrest or citation.
Police encourage residents to report any potential violations by calling 510-577-2740, or 911 for emergencies.
