San Leandro Small Businesses: Apply Now for $5K Grant

SAN LEANDRO, CA — San Leandro businesses struggling to stay afloat amid coronavirus closures have a new lifeline —the Alameda County Board of Supervisors has voted to give one-time grants of $5,000 to small businesses. The money does not need to be repaid.

Grant money must be spent on rent, payroll, and other operating expenses.

The application window for the grants opened Monday and will close on Nov. 30 at 11:30 p.m.

The Alameda County CARES Grant program is being funded with $5 million in federal CARES grant program money.

“Our small business community has been especially hard hit by the coronavirus pandemic. Alameda County is pleased that it is able to launch this much-needed grant program at this pivotal moment when we are experiencing a surge in new COVID-19 cases in our communities,” said Supervisor Keith Carson.

To be eligible for the grants, businesses must:

• have been negatively impacted by COVID-19, such as temporary closures or lay offs
• possess a valid business license
• agree to follow Alameda County Public Health guidelines
• have between 1 and 25 employees
