San Marino Businesses Targeted In Smash And Grab Burglaries

San Marino Police are warning the community about a rash of burglaries targeting businesses in town.

SAN MARINO, CA — Police in San Marino are warning residents to take precautions amid an increase in smash and grab burglaries targeting local businesses.

Over the past two weeks burglars targeted three business overnight by shattering the front glass door and tampering with cash registers, according to the San Marino Police Department

The burglaries started on May 5th when a business in the 2400 Block of Mission St. was burglarized. Ten days later, someone who two businesses on Huntington Dr. — one on the 200 block and another a short distance away on the 2400 block. The burglaries are a good reminder to take precautions to avoid being a target. According to the San Marino Police Department you should:

  • Set your alarms. Post warnings in clear view that the business is equipped with an alarm
  • Test and maintain your video surveillance system.
  • Minimize valuables left at your business.
  • Do not leave currency in the register. Leave the empty cash drawer open and visible.
  • Proper lighting eliminates shadows, which burglars use for cover. Light up all points of entry, including those on the roof. Leave lights on inside just as you would do at home.
  • Install lighting at the front and back in addition to any side doors of your business.
  • Safes – Limit the amount of cash you have on hand after hours. If you must have cash or other valuables, keep them in a safe anchored to the floor. Limit the storage of firearms and weapons.
