Transient Arrested For Allegedly Starting Fire In South Pasadena

SAN MARINO, CA – A man suspected of starting a vegetation fire in South Pasadena last summer has been arrested by San Marino investigators, authorities said Friday.

Carlos Hernandez, 46, a transient, was taken into custody on Feb. 2 by a San Marino fire investigator, San Marino Fire Department Capt. Jason Sutliff said.

"Hernandez admitted to setting the fire during a lengthy interview with investigators and was subsequently booked into the Alhambra Jail for arson," Sutliff said.

The Aug. 26, 2017, fire burned about an acre of vegetation on a hillside near Arroyo Drive in South Pasadena, threatening some homes before the flames were extinguished, Sutliff said.

Hernandez is scheduled to appear Feb. 28 in Alhambra Court.
