Blotter: Upset About Meal His Girlfriend Made, Man Hits and Punches Her

The San Rafael Police blotter for March 22-27 includes a series of thefts on El Cerrito Avenue and another car window smashed with a rock in Terra Linda.

 

March 27

Battery: Canal Street Apartments. A man was arrested on suspicion of battery after he became upset with what his girlfriend had cooked him for dinner and hit her in the back of her head and punched her in the arm. The couple, who have been together for four years and living together for 17 months, have one child together. He was booked in Marin County Jail.

Burglary: 100 block El Cerrito Avenue. A subject entered a garage between 7:30 p.m. on March 26 and 4 p.m. on March 27 and stole two bicycles and four baseball bats. The homeowner believes the suspect entered through a side door and isn’t sure if it was locked. Total loss is approximately $9,200.

Petty theft: 100 block El Cerrito Avenue. A subject entered an unlocked vehicle as it sat in his gate-enclosed driveway between 10:30 p.m. on March 26 and 7:30 a.m. on March 27. The DMV registration, insurance information and a gate opener were missing. The same evening a similar occurrence happened on the same block.

Burglary: 900 block Grand Avenue. A suspect entered into the dental office through an attic ladder and stole a Sony laptop, valued at $1,200. Several nights later, a suspect entered into a neighboring dental office suite through another attic ladder and vandalized the business.

Vandalism: 900 block Del Ganado Road. Sometime overnight a suspect smashed out the rear window of the reporting person’s work vehicle. No entry was made to the vehicle. The rock used in the vandalism was found on the sidewalk in front of the reporting person’s home. On March 18, several similar cases involving window-smash vandalism were taken in the Terra Linda area. Rocks were used to smash out car windows in those incidents. Approximately 12 vandalism cases were taken during the spree.

 

March 25

Rape: Canal Street Apartments, Canal Street. A man was arrested on suspicion of raping his spouse. He has been married to his wife for 10 years and they have three children. The victim said she had sexual intercourse with the suspect five times against her will. The suspect was booked into the Marin County Jail. 

DUI: Medway Road. Suspect was involved in the traffic collision at 36 Medway Road. The subject had attempted to buy alcohol just prior to the collision but was refused service. The officer contacted the subject as he was urinating at the front of his truck. He was having a hard time maintaining his balance. The officer game him several commands and the subject refused them. The subject was arrested for driving while intoxicated. A blood sample was taken at Marin County Jail, where a blood sample was taken.

 

March 24

Public intoxication: 7-Eleven, 703 B Street. Officer contacted a female subject who was causing a disturbance at 7-Eleven. The subject briefly ran from the officer and was quickly detained. The subject smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage and had spilled alcohol on her clothing. She had slurred speech and red, watery eyes. She was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail.

Petty theft: St. Vincent's Kitchen, 820 B Street. Victim asked a woman to watch his laptop while he want to the restroom at St. Vincent’s. He returned to find the woman, the laptop and his bag gone. He was told by St. Vincent’s staff that the woman tends to frequent Boyd Park. The officer drove by Boyd Park with the victim and identified the subject, who had the green backpack and laptop. The property was returned to the owner, who did not want to prosecute for the theft.

 

March 23

Felony arrest: Starbucks. Fourth Street and A Street. Officer saw a subject sitting in Starbucks at 1100 Fourth Street. A records check confirmed the subject had a $10,000 warrant for his arrest. He was booked into Marin County Jail and a hypodermic needle in his possession was disposed of.

 

March 22

Arrest: Terrapin Crossroads, 100 Yacht Club Drive. Subject was asked to leave “Terrapin Crossroads” three times before Barbier Security escorted him out. While being escorted, he leg swept the security guard, making the guard fall to ground and hurt his knee. A fight ensured between the security and the subject, who was subdued with pepper spray by security. The San Rafael Police and San Rafael Fire Department responded and arrested the subject, who was booked into jail.
