Kennedy, the daughter of former President John F. Kennedy and his wife Jacqueline Kennedy, was to read poems from her 10th book, "Poems To Learn By Heart" and encourage elementary and middle school students from four schools in the county to read some of the poems aloud.
Many of the more than 100 poems in the anthology Kennedy edited are written with students in grades K-12 in mind.

Dave Albee, the University's Associate Director of Public Relations, said the University learned at 12:15 p.m. that Kennedy's flight was delayed.
The university was able to inform some of the schools the event would be cancelled, but about one-third of the students still arrived on campus.
Mary Marcy, president of Dominican University, and Nicola Pitchford, Dean of the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, read poems from Kennedy's book, Albee said.
Some of the students also read the poems aloud, Albee said.
