Get Ready for Some Rain, San Rafael! Showers Are Coming to Bay Area, NWS Says

Maybe even thunderstorms. Drive safely ...

Bay Area residents are about to get a break from the warm and dry weather that has plagued the region since last week, as rain is expected Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.

A Pacific storm system is expected to approach the region causing widespread rainfall throughout the area, with heavy rain possible, especially along the coast, according to the NWS.large

Thunderstorms may be possible by late Wednesday afternoon and evening with lingering showers lasting through Thursday morning.

Wind speeds are also set to increase Wednesday morning, peaking during the afternoon and early evening at speeds of 20 to 30 miles per hour and with gusts reaching 45 to 50 mph in elevated areas, NWS officials said.

A secondary, smaller weather system will then pass through the North Bay on Friday, bringing a chance of light rain to the area, according to the NWS.
