Marin Boater Faces Assault With A Deadly Weapon Charges: Report

MARIN COUNTY, CA — A boater arrested last month after a standoff with authorities has been charged with nine counts including assault with a deadly weapon, The Marin Independent Journal reports.

Paul Ray Smith Jr., 53, was arrested April 2 in the Richardson Bay after a four-hour standoff according to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.

Smith is accused of firing a flare from a flare gun at the harbormaster that did not reach the harbormaster’s vessel in a March 18 incident that led to the standoff, the Sheriff’s Office said.

He is also accused of attempting to stab deputies multiple times with a several long stabbing instruments at the time of his arrest according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The Marin County District Attorney’s Office on Monday filed charges against Smith.
