NOVATO, CA — The Novato Unified School District is offering some teachers early retirements through a buyout program, The Marin Independent Journal reports.

The district is expected to reach the threshold of 12 teachers needed for the program to proceed by Friday’s deadline, the report said.

The program is “cost neutral” but will help the district avert layoffs that would affect newer teachers, NUSD Superintendent Kris Cosca told the IJ.
