Marin County To Bolster Response To Opioid Misuse
The county's board of supervisors will meet Tuesday to discuss adopting a resolution to address local efforts to diminish opioid abuse.
SAN RAFAEL, CA — The Marin County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday will consider adopting a resolution to improve the county's response to opioid misuse.
The board meets at 9 a.m. to consider adopting recommendations in the 2019-20 Grand Jury Report titled "Opioid Misuse: Strengthening Marin County's Response," that was issued in December.
The county has already implemented three of the report's findings and plans to implement one more in the future.

Specifically, the county will, over the next year, expand naloxone availability throughout the county in line with American Medical Association guidelines. Naloxone is a medication designed to rapidly reverse opioid overdose.
The county also agreed to expand its efforts in fiscal year 2021-2022 to increase the number of authorized prescribers of the drug and provide incentives to those prescribers to treat more patients with the drug.

Lastly, the county has decided to pursue funding and opportunities in the upcoming fiscal year to increase the number of beds available in long-term recovery facilities.
At its meeting Tuesday, the board will consider doing a detailed cost-benefit analysis in fiscal year 2021-2022 to determine if additional recovery coaches are warranted and, if so, retain them.
