Should the board accept the recommendation, Novato's Lu Sutton would close before the start of the 2022-2023 school year.

NOVATO, CA — A Novato elementary school has been selected for closure by a committee empaneled by a Novato school district, The Marin Independent Journal reports.

A Novato Unified School District committee picked Lu Sutton for closure, the report said.

Lynwood and Rancho were the other closure candidates.

Should the board accept the recommendation, the closure would into effect at the start of the 2022-2023 school year, the report said.

The board is scheduled to vote on the measure May 25, the report said.

Shuttering Lu Sutton would save the district around $400,000 according to the report.

The NUSD faces a potential $4 million annual shortfall should a parcel tax that expires in June 2023 not be renewed, the report said.
