Marin Supes To Pick Developer For Point Reyes Housing Facility

Marin County Supervisors are set to choose a developer to turn the former Coast Guard facility at Point Reyes into affordable housing.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — The Marin County Board of Supervisors is set to choose a developer Tuesday to turn the vacant former U.S. Coast Guard facility at Point Reyes Station into affordable housing.

The 32-acre property has been vacant since 2014, when the Coast Guard designated it as a surplus site. Last December, Marin County acquired it for $4.3 million, with a clause included in the purchase agreement that the county must use the site for public benefit.

The board is expected to choose between proposals from EAH Housing and from the Community Land Trust Association of West Marin and Eden Housing for the project. The two finalists were chosen from a request for proposals put out by the Marin County Community Development Agency.

The property includes 36 townhouses, a 24-room barracks facility, a dining hall and kitchen and a handful of additional buildings. County officials plan to collaborate with the chosen developer on a project design and how the existing buildings can be rehabilitated rather than razed and rebuilt.

The board will meet remotely Tuesday at 9 a.m. Residents can watch the meeting online or on television. Information on how to participate remotely in board meetings can be found at marincounty.org/main/county-press-releases/press-releases/2020/bos-covid-meetingparticipation-040920.
