The boy was identified by authorities as Myles Kawashima, a 17-year-old multi-sport athlete at Redwood High School.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — A Marin teen was killed Monday in a Lake Tahoe boating accident, The Reno Gazette Journal reports.

The boy was identified by authorities as Myles Kawashima, 17 of Greenbrae, the report said.

Kawashima died from yet unknown causes after falling from a moving boat, a Nevada Department of Wildlife spokesman Aaron Meier told the news outlet.

"I don't know if it was his impact with the water or cold water shock," Meier said.

"But he apparently began to struggle pretty quickly and by the time his friends were able to get to him, he had already drowned."

The investigation of Kawashima’s death is ongoing, Meier said.

Kawashima was a multisport athlete at Redwood High School who just completed his junior year.

He was a rising baseball star who played club ball for the California Warriors.

Kawashima also played football on the junior varsity at Redwood, and despite being undersized for his position, the 6-foot-1, 180-pound right guard played an impactful role on a Giants team that went undefeated his sophomore year in 2018, former Redwood coach Nicholas Naudain told Patch.

“He had that kind of a heart — it didn’t matter what was standing in front of him, he was going to beat it,” Naudain said.

Kawashima also had a heart of gold, Naudain said, noting that he was especially protective of Elizabeth Johnson, a female teammate on the football team.

“He was like her guardian angel,” Naudain said. “Myles was always sticking up for her.”
