Marin Tops Nation’s Vaccine Rollout Rankings: Report
As of Tuesday 60 percent of Marin residents were fully vaccinated. That led all counties in the United States with populations over 250,000.
MARIN COUNTY, CA — Marin has yet to reach the yellow tier, but its vaccine rollout has been as good as gold.
That’s according to a San Francisco Chronicle report that cites data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
As of Tuesday 60 percent of Marin residents were fully vaccinated. That led all counties in the United States with populations over 250,000 according to the report.

The Bay Area has emerged as the nation’s regional vaccination leader according to the report.
Marin was among six Bay Area counties ranked in the top 16 counties with 250,000 or more people and among two in the top four.

San Francisco ranked fourth with 54 percent of its population fully vaccinated and Contra Costa (51 percent) ranked 10th.
Santa Clara and San Mateo counties (both 50 percent) were involved in a three-way tie for 11th place with Albany (New York) and Napa and Alameda (both 49 percent) counties were involved in a three-way tie for 14th with Onondaga (New York).
The Chronicle report established a relationship between those with college degrees and high vaccination rates.
Marin has the nation’s sixth highest rate of people 25 or older with bachelor’s degrees and San Francisco the 10th highest according to the report.
The reports tracks with research conducted by the British Medical Journal that shows the least educated are the most likely to be among those considered vaccine hesitant.
According to the study, 24 percent of those without college degrees are vaccine hesitant compared to 13 percent of those who have college degrees falling into that category.
Vaccine hesitancy is defined by the World Health Organization as a “delay in acceptance or refusal of safe vaccines despite availability of vaccine services” according to the BMJ report.
Vaccine hesitancy is tied to misinformation and quack conspiracies that circulate online, especially on social media according to the report.
