Produce Fridge Catches Fire at Mi Pueblo Market – Store Evacuated
Shoppers inside the San Rafael market were evacuated early this morning after Mi Pubelo workers discovered a fire in the lettuce section.
Workers quickly extinguished a fire in the produce section of Mi Pubelo market early this morning.
The Canal market had already been evacuated when 15 San Rafael firefighters arrived at the scene at 7:40 a.m.

The fire, which ignited plastic material and containers in the lettuce section, appeared to have been started by a faulty compressor or fan in a refrigeration unit, according to San Rafael Fire Chief Chris Gray.
The estimated loss is less than $5,000.

The firefighters ensured the fire was out and helped the store management restore normal service and operations.
“A prompt call to 9-1-1, appropriate action by employees and rapid response by firefighters limited loss,” Gray said.
