Red Flag Warning Issued For North Bay Mountains

Dry, warm and windy weather conditions are expected this weekend.

NORTH BAY, CA — The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for the North Bay mountains and other parts of the Bay Area due to dry, warm and windy weather conditions expected this weekend.

The warning is in effect from 9 p.m. Saturday until 8 a.m. Monday in the North Bay mountains and East Bay hills and valleys.

The red flag warning means that weather conditions will be conducive to the spread of wildfire.

"A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior," weather officials said.

Residents can expect to see 35 to 45 mph winds. Gusts of up to 50 mph are expected in the highest elevations, according to NWS. The strongest winds are expected near Mount Saint Helena as well as Mount Tamalpais in Marin County.

Persistent offshore winds are expected to reach all the way to the coast Sunday night. The areas of the Wallbridge Fire and Woodward Fire in Point Reyes "will feel the effects of the drying offshore winds," officials said.
