Road Closure on Sunday for Marin 415 Mile Race

A Grateful Dead cover band and microbrews will be part of the Marin race celebration.

Fourth Street in downtown San Rafael will be closed Sunday morning for the Marin 415 Mile and Miracle Mile race, an expansion of the annual San Rafael Downtown Mile.

The 5-mile Marin 415 Mile race, which refers to Marin and San Francisco counties’ 415 area code, begins at 7:30 a.m. It starts and ends on Fourth Street.

J.T. Service, founder of Represent Running & Soul Focus Sports, said more than 500 runners are expected at the event, which includes a new five-mile run and a kids fun run. The race will also include 1 mile heats for a variety of groups.

The road closure — Fourth Street between Lincoln Avenue and H Street — will begin at 4:30 a.m. and end at noon, according to San Rafael Police officials.

Motorists traveling through downtown are advised to use Second and Third Streets as alternate routes.

Runners in the five-mile race will run down Fifth Avenue to the western end of the road, then to Forbes Avenue, Bryn Mawr Drive, Mission Avenue and back to Fourth Street.

The San Rafael Police Department won’t close other roads during the race, but officials are asking people to be cautious of runners on the edge of the road and the sidewalk.

There will be microbrews, food and music by a Grateful Dead cover band after the races are completed, according to organizers.

Service said participants will get a free running shirt, a $10 Gift Certificate to Sports Authority and all participants/volunteers receive a medal for being “Marin Champions.”

Online registration for the race ended Thursday, but onsite registration will be available Saturday at SA Elite (10am-4pm) in Corte Madera or onsite at the race Sunday morning.
