“Sean spent his entire 20-year career in education at SRHS, where he shared the joys of music with thousands of students, staff, and families,” Dennis wrote.

“His impact on the community extends beyond the award-winning music program he helped create. Sean inspired his students with his dedication, care, and his charisma.

"A proud Bulldog himself, he was an ambassador for the school, projecting positive energy through music at games, graduations, parades, and community venues.”

Dennis said he is mindful of Castle’s death occurring over the summer at a time when the school community can’t grieve together. His letter includes links to mental health and grief counseling resources.

“Moreover, this tragedy feels especially difficult after such an already challenging year,” Dennis wrote.

“We anticipate many students and staff may experience feelings of shock, frustration, and tremendous grief. We believe that it is important that all are encouraged to discuss these feelings and emotions with a parent or trusted adult and to seek additional support if necessary.”

Two events are planned to honor Castle, both of which are open to the public.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of San Rafael on Saturday, July 24 at 11 a.m., and a musical tribute hosted by San Rafael High School Music Boosters will be held on Sunday, Aug. 29, at 4 p.m. at the San Rafael Community Center.

In lieu of flowers, Castle’s family is asking that donations be made in Castle’s memory to the SRHS Music Boosters.
