The fire appears to have been caused by a faulty exterior electrical switch in the rear of the home. The fire spread up the wall, into a bathroom and across the ceiling of the home, according to fire officials.

Firefighters doused the flames to prevent further damage.

No civilians or firefighters were reported injured, San Rafael Fire Chief Chris Gray said.

The damage to the structure and contents of the home is estimated to be less than $10,000.

The fire remains under investigation.
