San Rafael Honors Juneteenth

SAN RAFAEL, CA — The San Rafael City Council issued a proclamation commemorating Juneteenth.

Juneteenth is America's longest standing nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery.

“Juneteenth is an opportunity for our community to celebrate the lives, liberties, and dreams of African American families locally, nationally, and globally," city officials said in a statement.

“The Council recognizes this as a moment to look upon the current state of our nation as an opportunity for change that brings about racial equity through the work of radical imagination, intention, purpose, and continued work towards the eradication of prejudice, racism, and injustice.”
