San Rafael Readies For Major Freeway Project

The northbound Highway 101 Central San Rafael off-ramp bridge will be closed from Sunday night at 11 p.m. through 6 a.m. on Sunday.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — Motorists are being advised to expect traffic delays as Caltrans crews continue work on a project that will involve a temporary freeway configuration and a freeway closure early next week, the San Rafael Police Department said.

The northbound Highway 101 Central San Rafael off-ramp bridge will be closed from Sunday night at 11 p.m. through 6 a.m. on Sunday, police said.

Crews will reduce the number of travel lanes on the 101 northbound Central San Rafael exit from three lanes to two.

The SRPD said it will have extra shifts to monitor, evaluate, and conduct traffic control as conditions and patterns will likely change.

The SRPD is asking that motorists be mindful and add extra time to their travels as delays are expected to increase during Stage 2 of the Harbor Bridge replacement project.

The new configuration will provide for one lane to the new temporary bridge, and one lane to the existing off-ramp. This two-lane configuration will remain in place until the end of July, so that the construction team can continue work on Stage 2 of this bridge replacement project.
