San Rafael’s Downtown Farmers Market Returns

The downtown market, which runs April through September, will include more organic farmers this year.

Light spring showers might mark the return of San Rafael’s downtown Thursday night farmers market.

The market is set to return tonight, from 6 to 9 p.m., for its 24th season this year.

“We’re just hoping it won’t rain,” said the market’s manager Monique Anderson.

Rain and showers are expected Thursday morning, according to Weather.com, but the precipitation is forecasted to end in the afternoon, just in time for the market.

Anderson said the market will continue to have three bands and kids attractions as well as more fresh produce this year. “We have three new organic farmers coming in and a couple new food vendors this year,” Anderson said.

The market will be on Fourth Street, between B Street and Lootens. Anderson said later in the year it will expand to Cijos Street.

The downtown market is the third weekly market in San Rafael. The Agricultural Institute of Marin organizes the two year-round Sunday morning and Thursday morning farmers markets at the Marin County Civic Center. The Sunday morning market, the third largest in California, was recently featured in a New York Times “36 Hours in Marin” travel article.
