Teen Arrested for Allegedly Sexually Assualting Intoxicated Woman

The woman was taken to a hospital and police arrested 19-year-old Edward Carlos Hernandez, of San Rafael.

San Rafael police last week arrested a man on suspicion of sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman with whom he was acquainted, a police lieutenant said Tuesday.

Police responded Thursday to a report of a woman who was being dragged by a male on Mission Avenue near Hetherton Street, Lt. Raffaello Pata said.

The caller said the woman was intoxicated and not able to care for herself, but police were not able to locate her after searching in cars and on foot, Pata said.

Officer Tom Sabido was in his patrol car when he heard the sound of a woman in distress, then found a male suspect sexually assaulting a woman near a bike path that connects north San Rafael with the downtown area, Pata said.

The woman was taken to a hospital and police arrested 19-year-old Edward Carlos Hernandez, of San Rafael, on suspicion of sexual assault of an intoxicated or drugged victim and sexual assault with a foreign object. Police said Hernandez and the victim were acquainted but were never in a relationship, and the woman was too intoxicated to give her consent.
