7 People, 6 Pets Displaced In Structure Fire Near San Ramon

As crews battled the blaze, westbound Camino Tassajara was closed to traffic and a SigAlert was issued.

SAN RAMON, CA — Seven people were displaced from a house fire late Monday afternoon in unincorporated Contra Costa County, fire officials said.

Firefighters were called at 4:20 p.m. to the 8000 block of Camino Tassajara, Battalion Chief Dan McNamara with the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District said.

When the fire was reported, a fire engine was just down the street and they were able to get to the home quickly, according to McNamara.

Flames destroyed the garage, but firefighters were able to extinguish the fire before it destroyed the house.

The house sustained smoke and fire damage, McNamara said. No one was injured.

Four cats were rescued and two dogs escaped on their own. McNamara said the fire appears to have started in the garage. The cause is under investigation.
