Dougherty Valley HS Grad Dies Unexpectedly, Community Grieves
Jordan Daniel Maler, 26, was found dead in his Oakland apartment of unknown causes.
SAN RAMON, CA — A 2011 graduate of Dougherty Valley High School who went on to become a 2015 Cal Poly San Luis Obispo business grad and then a valued tech employee is being remembered after dying unexpectedly Nov. 14.
Jordan Daniel Maler, 26, was found dead in his Oakland apartment of unknown causes, according to the San Luis Obispo Tribune.
Funeral services and a celebration of life for Maler were held Nov. 23 in Los Osos, near his college alma mater.

Family members believe Maler died in his sleep, possibly from an arrhythmia, or an irregular heart beat, according to the San Luis Obispo Tribune. Drugs and suicide have been ruled out, his mother told the newspaper.
Maler's death shocked friends and family, which include many Cal Poly graduates. He helped launch the Mustang Success Center that supports Cal Poly students with academic advising and services to help them graduate on time. He also served as vice president of the American Marketing Association’s Cal Poly chapter.

“Jordan stood out among students making the most of his undergraduate experience through academics, club leadership and even working with faculty on research,” Stern Neill, a Cal Poly marketing professor, told the San Luis Obispo Tribune. “His career success represented the best of our graduates.”
Maler worked at Facebook, and went on to a position with Pinterest. His hometown was San Ramon.
