Local Firefighters, Police Staff Drive-Thru CoCo Vaccine Clinics

SAN RAMON, CA — San Ramon residents got a step closer to getting COVID-19 vaccines as the county opened new drive-thru clinics that served 1,000 Contra Costa residents in the first week of operation.

The goal, as more doses become available, is to vaccinate 6,000 people per week.

The clinics are staffed by local fire departments, police, ambulance crews, and volunteer agencies and are scheduled to be held at three locations in the county — in Hercules on Mondays and Tuesdays; in San Ramon on Wednesdays and Thursdays; and in Brentwood on Fridays and Saturdays.

The shots are by appointment only. Currently, you must fall into one or more of these categories to schedule a vaccine:

• Age 65 and over resident of Contra Costa County
• Acute care, psychiatric, or correctional facility hospital staff
• Clinic Worker (Primary, Dialysis, Dental/Oral Health or Specialty Care)
• Home health worker, home care worker, Community health worker, including promotoras
• In Home Supportive Services (IHSS) worker
• Laboratory worker
• Mortuary Staff
• Paramedic or EMT
• Pharmacy staff
• Public Health Field or Homeless Services Staff
• Resident or Staff at intermediate care facilities for persons who need non-continuous nursing supervision and supportive care
• Resident or Staff at skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, and similar settings for older or medically vulnerable individuals
• Adult & Child Protective Services Field Staff

Participating fire agencies include Contra Costa County Fire, Crockett-Carquinez Fire, East Contra Costa Fire, El Cerrito Fire, Moraga-Orinda Fire, Pinole Fire, Richmond Fire, Rodeo- Hercules Fire, and San Ramon Valley Fire.

“As providers of emergency medical services across the county, our fire agencies are proud to be able to increase vaccine distribution in order to help further protect the communities we serve,” said Deputy Chief Aaron McAlister, Contra Costa Fire Protection District. “This multi-agency collaboration includes fire and law enforcement agencies, Contra Costa Health Services, community organizations, and many volunteers.”

Law enforcement participants include the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services and local police departments in Brentwood, Hercules, and San Ramon.

Ambulance company AMR is supporting these clinics, along with Contra Costa County Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) and the Contra Costa County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC).

In Hercules, Valley Bible Church is making its facilities available as a clinic site. Los Medanos College is making space available in Brentwood, and Bishop Ranch in San Ramon.
