San Ramon Car Chase Ends In 3-Year Prison Sentence: Report

A federal judge gave a man a longer sentence than even prosecutors requested, Bay Area News Group reported.

SAN RAMON, CA — A Bay Area man was sentenced this month to spend 40 months behind bars in connection with a December 2019 police pursuit in San Ramon, Bay Area News Group reported.

Aaron Hammond, 46, threw a pistol out of his window and reached 80 mph speeds, the paper reported. He was arrested days after the chase in Livermore, while on parole after serving 11 years in prison after he was convicted of manslaughter, Bay Area News Group reported.

Hammond apologized to the judge and said he sought to free of his drug addiction and obtain his GED diploma, the paper reported. U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzales said she hoped he was sincere and sentenced him to 40 months behind bars — three months more than the sentence that prosecutors asked for, Bay Area News Group reported.
