San Ramon Commission To Discuss Bishop Ranch 6 Housing Tuesday

SAN RAMON, CA — The San Ramon Planning Commission gets an opportunity to discuss the proposed 404-unit Bishop Ranch 6 housing development with the public on Tuesday.

The proposal would be the first major housing development planned for the city's all-important downtown area inside the business park.

It's part of an ambitious plan years in the making to mix housing and retail with existing corporate tenants and park space.

Summerhill Homes has filed an application to build 114 row homes, 154 courtyard homes, and 136 multi-family townhomes on 31 acres inside the city's Walking District Master Plan, with enhanced landscaping and sidewalks for long-term pedestrian access to the city's core.

The project will be near three three-story office buildings constructed in the 1980s. The developer has committed to conform to the city's Inclusionary Housing Ordinance by committing 15 percent of the townhomes to low, very low, and moderate-income households. Summerhill will also pay affordable housing fees for the courtyard homes and row houses. There would also be a 2-acre park accessible to the public.

Changing the area's zoning from mixed use to mixed use density residential will require an amendment to the city's North Camino Ramon Specific Plan. The development will require architectural and environmental review and approval from the Planning Commission and City Council, which city staff says will require at least three formal hearings. No action is planned Tuesday.
