San Ramon's Population Grew 61 Percent in the Last Decade
San Ramon's population went from 47,772 in 2000 to 72,148 in 2010.

San Ramon's population increased more than its ever had over the last 10 years, according to a report received by the San Ramon City Council on Tuesday.
City staff presented the report, done by the United States Census Bureau, to give council members a full understanding of the demographic changes in the city.
The population of San Ramon grew from 47,722 to 72,148 between 2000 and 2010. Most of the increase has come in the Dougherty Valley area, with 26,445 living now in Dougherty Valley.

San Ramon's population has also grown slightly older, going from 36.5 years old in 2000 to 37.1 years old in 2010.
The population of people over the age of 65 has increased. The demographic made up 6 percent of the population in 2000 and now it makes up 8 percent of the population.

The youngest demographic, people under the age of 18, has also seen an increase. In 2000, 26.3 percent (11,762) of the population was under 18 and that has increased to 30 percent (21,351).
The ages of people in San Ramon are different between Dougherty Valley and the rest of the city. As the report says, "Dougherty Valley has a significant number of young children (0-14) and adults between 30 and 50 years old. The older population (65 and over) and the young adult population are not as well represented in Dougherty Valley.
San Ramon has also become more Asian and less White over the last decade.
In 2000, Asians made up 15 percent of the population in San Ramon and Whites made up 77 percent. In 2010, Asians no account for 35 percent of the population and Whites are 64 percent of the population.
