San Ramon Pursuit, Foot Chase Ends In Arrest

The freeway was shut down as the man ran on the overcrossing fence on a bridge above.

SAN RAMON, CA — Police temporarily shut down both directions of Interstate Highway 680 Tuesday morning during a foot chase of a suspect who abandoned a stolen vehicle that broke down during a pursuit, San Ramon police said.

The driver initially struck a police vehicle while fleeing an attempted traffic stop just before 8 a.m. and was pursued on Crow Canyon Road near Shoreline Drive and onto I-680 when the vehicle had engine issues and the suspect exited at Sycamore Valley Road and fled on foot, police said.

"He jumped the Sycamore Valley Road overcrossing fence and began running on the outside of the fence above the freeway," police said. "For his safety, the freeway was temporarily shut down in both directions."
