San Ramon Seniors Treated To Heartwarming Gesture

Senior meal program recipients were surprised with bright sunflowers, lucky four-leaf clovers, and cute ladybugs, bunnies and turtles.

SAN RAMON, CA —San Ramon seniors got a special surprise with their meal deliveries this fall when a local woman sought to find a way to lift their spirits.

Karen DeMartini painted 130 rocks to put smiles on the faces of seniors, the city said. She painted playful bunnies, glimmering four-leaf clovers, buzzing bees and butterflies, cheery sunflowers, landscapes and dazzling stars. The rocks bore messages such as "special," loved," "keep smiling" and "breathe."

The rocks also came with inspirational notes that read: "This little rock was made for you. May it bring a smile to your face [a]nd joy to your heart[.] Stay well and happy!"
