Stanford Students Launch 'Equipped Lockers' At 3 San Ramon Parks
Through a mobile app, users connect with a locker to retrieve their desired sports gear then return the equipment when finished.
SAN RAMON, CA — Ever find yourself at a park, wishing you remembered to bring a ball for the kids to kick around? Or maybe you forgot a piece of sports equipment for that friendly weekend competition. If that's the case, three Stanford University students have San Ramon covered.
The students — one in business school, another in engineering, and the other in law school — have built a network of app-connected lockers that lend recreational items to the public. Through a mobile app, users connect with a locker to retrieve their desired equipment then return the gear when finished.
The students contacted the city in June with their concept — Equipped Systems Inc. — and by August the city was considering the idea on a six-month trial period.

Now the Equipped Systems lockers can now be found at three San Ramon parks: Rancho San Ramon, Athan Downs and Central.
Equipped Systems is responsible for the installation, stocking and servicing of the lockers throughout the trial, and the city is not paying for any services during the pilot. Once the trial ends, San Ramon officials will have the option of having the lockers removed or partnering with Equipped for extended service.
