Too Hot? Here Are The San Ramon Cooling Centers

Don't put away those shorts and tank tops quite yet.

The National Weather Service is advising Bay Area residents that the hottest day of this heat wave will be Tuesday.

An excessive heat warning is in effect for the region through 7 p.m. Wednesday, with inland temperatures expected to hit between 100 and 110 Tuesday, hydrologist Mark Strudley said.

San Ramon is opening seven cooling centers in response to the heat. The centers will be open all week, except Thursday. Following are the locations of the centers and hours of operation:

• San Ramon Community Center, 12501 Alcosta Blvd; 8 a.m.-10 p.m.
• Alcosta Senior and Community Center, 9300 Alcosta Blvd; 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
• Dougherty Station Community Center, 17011 Bollinger Canyon Rd; 8 a.m.-7 p.m.
• San Ramon Library, 100 Montgomery St; 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
• Dougherty Station Library, 17017 Bollinger Canyon Rd; noon-8 p.m.
• San Ramon Pool, 9900 Broadmoor Dr.; 11 a.m.-4 p.m., 7-8:30 p.m.
• Dougherty Valley Aquatic Center, 10550 Albion Rd.; 12:30-3:30 p.m., 7:30-9 p.m.

Livermore will be one of the hottest spots in Bay Area, but parts of the South Bay including Gilroy and San Jose are also poised to reach the triple digits, Strudley said.

Hot zones will also include other cities in the East Bay, such as Richmond, as well as much of Napa and Sonoma counties.

Those wishing to escape the scorching heat may want to head to the beach.

Strudley said there will be "cooler areas as you get closer to the coast."

A regional cool-off is not expected until Friday, meaning the Fourth of July holiday will still be toasty.

"Stay hydrated!" Strudley reminded residents.

He said the good news is that fog is unlikely to obstruct views of fireworks shows. There was some marine layer seen along the coast Sunday night but fog is likely to be minimal the rest of the week, Strudley said.

Local emergency responders have reminded beachgoers to use caution around the water, especially after two women drowned in the ocean north of Santa Cruz on Sunday.
