Tour San Ramon's 56 Public Art Installations
Take the city's new public art tour and check out spectacular sculptures, mosaics, utility boxes, fountains and more.
SAN RAMON, CA — The City of San Ramon has launched a Public Art Tour and map of 56 public art installations throughout the city.
The tour features a butterfly mosaic, wind-driven sculpture, the Bishop Ranch fountain and reflection pool, and even the red spheres outside of Target.
Each photo is geotagged on a map, and has information about the artist, medium, context and location. The map is sorted by mosaics and murals, sculptures and fountains.

"Our community really values art," said San Ramon Recreation Supervisor Adam Chow.
The Public Art Tour map comes on the heels of the completion of a project to decorate 10 utility boxes across San Ramon. The first phase of the utility box project began in 2018, and the second phase wrapped up in December.

Utility box art is considered temporary and will likely last six to eight years, depending on the weather and materials used, Chow said.
Utility box artists were selected by the City of San Ramon Arts Advisory Committee, from a pool of dozens of applicants, he said. Artists were welcome to submit art about anything they wanted, but art is placed with consideration to how well it would fit in at a particular location.
A tropical underwater ocean scene was placed near Petco, for example, he said.
Public art "provides opportunity for people to not just think of the day to day," he said. "It's really exciting for us to be able to provide a lot of art pieces for the community."
