11 Santa Cruz Streets Chosen For 'Slow Streets' Initiative: LIST
The streets will become more bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly as more locals stay home and exercise in their communities. SEE LIST.
SANTA CRUZ, CA — The city of Santa Cruz has chosen 11 streets to be part of its Slow Streets pilot program to make more space for pedestrians and cyclists, who have taken to local streets to exercise amid the stay-at-home order.
The 11 street segments were nominated by residents and selected by the city. Cars will still be able to pass through, though they will be under new restrictions to make more space for cyclists and pedestrians seeking to exercise while maintaining social distancing, the city said in a news release Thursday.
The need to maintain social distancing has resulted in some unsafely entering roadways to pass others, the city previously said.
