Beach Hazard Notice Extended Again In Santa Cruz County

Officials have again issued a warning about beach hazards this week. Breaking waves of 15 to 20 feet are forecast.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA —Weather officials have issued a beach hazards notice once more this week, now forecasting breaking waves of 15 to 20 feet high, the National Weather Service announced. The beach hazards notice is in place through 11 a.m. Saturday.

Sneaker waves and rip currents are possible along the Pacific coastline, and could sweep swimmers, surfers and beachgoers out to sea, according to NWS. The public is asked to stay off the rocks, which can prove deadly under beach hazard conditions, and remain out of the water or stay close to occupied lifeguard towers.

Anyone caught in a rip current should float and relax — not try to swim against the current — and swim parallel to the shoreline if possible, NWS said. If swimming is not possible, face the shore, and call or wave to get help.
