3 Displaced After Santa Cruz House Fire

Fire officials believe the blaze was likely caused by an electrical malfunction.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — Three people were displaced by a residential structure fire in Santa Cruz early this morning, according to the city's fire department. Santa Cruz fire crews responded to a report of a porch on fire at 217 Raymond St. just after 4 a.m., fire officials said.

Initial units arrived and reported fire coming from the front door of a single-story duplex, fire officials said. Residents in both units got out safely and no injuries were reported. Hoses were deployed and the fire was knocked down. The blaze was controlled in 30 minutes, fire officials said.

The occupants were allowed to gather belongings in the home as a part of salvage operations. The blaze caused an estimated $100,000 in damage, according to the fire department. The cause of the blaze is under investigation, but fire officials believe it was caused by an electrical malfunction.
