6 Female Artists Sought For Suffrage Exhibit: Santa Cruz County

Six vintage women's suffrage posters will be re-imagined by the yet-to-be selected artists.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — In honor of the 100-year anniversary of women’s suffrage in the United States, the Santa Cruz County Women’s Commission is commissioning artwork for its 2020 “Be the Voice” art wall exhibit. Next year marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing and protecting women's constitutional right to vote.

The commission has selected six vintage suffrage posters to be re-imagined with more diversity. The new posters will depict underrepresented groups, including women farm workers, transgender women, senior women, Latina women, LGBTQ women, and women with disabilities, according to the county.

Six local women artists will be selected to create the more inclusive posters, and the final works will reflect the ethnic diversity Santa Cruz County in addition to the specified representational theme, according to county officials.
