Public Input Sought on Transportation Projects

The Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) will hold a public hearing to solicit community input on transportation projects proposed for approximately $10 million in local shares of state and federal transportation funding. The hearing is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at the County Board of Supervisors Chambers, 701 Ocean Street, Santa Cruz. The hearing will be preceded by a staff presentation.

Projects proposed to receive new funds include: Highway 1 Soquel Drive-41st Avenue Auxiliary Lanes and Chanticleer Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge over Highway 1; Highway 1/Highway 9 intersection modifications; Santa Cruz Branch Rail Line Rehabilitation; Airport Boulevard sidewalks, travel and bicycle lane extensions near Freedom Boulevard in Watsonville; sidewalks on Park Avenue in Capitola; sidewalks and bicycle lanes adjacent to Vine Hill Elementary School in Scotts Valley; Soquel Drive/Park Way Intersection Turn Lanes in Santa Cruz; and storm damage repairs in unincorporated areas of the County.

Projects approved for funds by the RTC will be included in the 2012 Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Improvement Program (RTIP). While the RTC will be identifying projects to receive funds at the hearing, the availability of $9 million from the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) is subject to concurrence from the California Transportation Commission (CTC).
