Arson Suspect Arrested In Santa Cruz

Police said Laurentino Lopez-Gomez, a 31-year-old transient in Santa Cruz​, is suspected of starting a fire.

SANTA CRUZ, CA --A man was arrested Sunday for allegedly starting a structure fire in Santa Cruz. Police said Laurentino Lopez-Gomez, a 31-year-old transient in Santa Cruz, is suspected of starting a fire at Vapor Clearners on Water Street around noon last Thursday.

Fire inspectors determined the structure fire was intentionally set and surveillance video led officers to Lopez-Gomez, police said.

Lopez-Gomez was located Sunday in the 200 block of River Street.

Laurentino Lopez-Gomez was taken into custody without incident. During an interview, Lopez-Gomez made incriminating statements and was subsequently booked for the arson, police said.
